A member asked:

Just went to the hospital because i thought i had the stomach flu. doc agreed but blood work came back and had very high lipase (242 u/l), doc said its not pancreatis because i dont have the symptoms like pain, liver also high. what can it be??

A doctor has provided 1 answer

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, your lipase level while slightly elevated is not at a level to be diagnostic of pancreatitis. You lab tests and symptoms could be due to a viral infection. Wish you good health!
