My four year old went for routine bloodwork. everything was in the normal range except for the iron test. the normal range for iron was 28-147 ug/dl. his was 187. what does this indicate? i am waiting for his pediatrician to call me. thank you?

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, The result you reported is not a cause for concern. Wish you good health!

If he is taking supplemental iron, the Pediatrician may reduce the dose. The underlying reason for the test is not clear. Please provide more details of any symptoms. Discuss whether additional testing is required with your Pediatrician.
