A member asked:

My wife has covid for the last 3 days and is generally getting better every day on just tylenol. her throat hurts quite a bit when the effect wears of. we heard from some friends they took an expectorant like dayquil. is that a good idea/necessary?

I would prefer something that helps break up mucus rather than suppressing cough like DayQuil. Mucinex would be something I would take myself for this situation.

Probably can't hurt and may help. May need to try several OTC to see which one works better in her. If you can find Aspergum give that a try. I assume she is on the COVID antiviral treatment recommended by CDC in CA and she is isolating and wearing a mask to prevent spreading it to others around her. Others in house should also mask up.

Agree with Dr. Ferguson. Taking steam or water vapor inhalation would help loosen the mucus and make it easier to expel without use of medications. Get booster doses of Covid as advised by your doctor.
