I became hyper aware of my breathing while drinking water.felt like like i tried to drink and breathe at same time. caused a lot of pressure and pain in neck. have had gerd symptoms since then. could i have damaged my les or caused a hiatal hernia?

Could have but not likely. If GERD I would elevate the head of your bed on 4 or 8 inch blocks as this many hep GERD and hiatoal hernia. Gravity never sleeps.

An esophageal spasm appears more likely in described circumstances as causing possible symptoms consistent with GERD for example. Seeing your doc in follow up in case symptoms persist will be best.
