A member asked:

An mri showed right side nerve compression from a herniated disc @l5 s1. lately, i've getting parasthesia of the opposite, left foot. been under a lot of stress as well. i am worried this foot thing might be a progression of the l5 s1 problem?

Depending upon size and location of a herniated disc, on occasion there may be bilateral symptoms. However, could also wonder about evolving cauda equina syndrome, co-morbidity of a peripheral neuropathy, even a second disc rupture. See a spinal surgeon or a physiatrist and have this examined. An EMG study might be of value.

You obviously had the mri because of a problem with your back and probably leg pain as well. Inevitably this will get worse in situations where there is nerve compromise, as you state does exist on the right. At 53 without knowing anything more about you, this is very likely to progress to further degeneration that could be bilateral or involve the SI joints. See your surgeon.
