A member asked:

Albumin went from avg of 4.8 my whole life down to 3.6 last exam. all other levels were normal but protein and potassium slightly lower than usual. is this cause of concern for such a sudden change? last exam was month ago. albumin never this low?

My rule is to always repeat a test that has changed a lot to make certain if was not an error in the assay that day. Your Dr who ordered the test may have a better idea of what is normal form this lab in folks like you who live in Patterson.

I agree with Dr. Grim. Lab error occurs most often so it should be repeated if there is a big change. If your total protein is also much lower than the previous test, lab error is likely. However, if the A/G is now less than 1.2 or even reversed, test should be repeated.
