50 y.o. skip a few mos of a period. est high. fsh in meno range. then- gushing flow & clots. dr. said lining looks as if i'm about to have a period. put on progesterone to thin lining. she says biopsy to check for endo cancer in 2 or 3 mos. why wait?

Risk versus benefit, bleeding is likely due to hormonal imbalance, i.e. endometrial hyperplasia rather than carcinoma. If the lining gets thin with progesterone, endometrial biopsy may be unnecessary but either approach can be done.
