A member asked:

Endoscopy: la grade a esophagitis @ gastroesophageal junction & few mid size bleps w/ localized distribution in mid esophageal segment. biopsy: gastric cardiac type mucosa w/ chronic inflammation but no intestinal metaplasia/dysplasia. diagnosis?

I would regard this as mild to moderate inflammation of the esophagus with no premalignant features. Recommend treatment in addition to dietary measures would be a medication like omeprazole or nexium for 2 weeks. No alcohol or excessive caffeine intake. Your gastroenterologist should explain all this to you and arrange for follow-up.

Agree with Dr. Colantino. You probably have gastric acid reflux and that needs to be addressed. If you are overweight, losing weight would be helpful.
