Had endoscopy done... extremely mild im found. here is what was written: antral-type and body type gastric mucosa with focal intestinal metaplasia. gi doctor told me to check up in a year. she found everything to be benign. thoughts? huge risk? none?

Not a huge risk,but:: RISK IS INCREASED BUT NOT HUGE. In one study the risk of metaplasia > gastric cancer was 1 IN 39 PATIENTS OVER A 20 YEAR PERIOD. FACTORS INCREASING RISK: tobacco smoking, salt and salt preserved foods, processed meat and fish(label will list "nitrites"),diets low in fruits and vegetables, H.pylori infection, obesity. AVOIDING THESE RISK FACTORS WILL REDUCE YOUR CHANCE OF GASTRIC CANCER.
