A member asked:

Can sore eyes only be optic neuritis or will there always be vision changes too with it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Optic neuritis is caused by inflammation of the proximal optic nerve or less commonly, retrobulbar area. Loss of visual acuity, color desaturation, and eye pain on movement. Isolated "sore eyes" would never be a presentation of optic neuritis, and some visual alteration is always present in O.N.
