How deep of a cut on a thumb is too deep? how to know when to see a medical professional? i cut my thumb on a light (yes i know) today and it is surprisingly deep and red in colour inside. it has left a hole where i cut it. when should i get help?

Based on your description of the cut, I would have gone to urgent care right away. Even if the bleeding has stopped, your thumb might heal better with sutures. Also, if you haven’t had a tetanus shot in the past 5 years, you should probably get a booster.
