I'm 16 weeks and have pretty significant cramps. i had an exam and ultra sound and doctor said nothing is wrong. but am i supposed to be having cramps like this in the second trimester ?

Yes, the uterus is expanding rapidly with the pregnancy with a growth phase. There "cramps" are also known as "stretching" pains.

"Pretty significant cramps at 16 weeks" may require a repeat ultrasound to measure the length of your cervix and the appearance of your cervical canal; an appropriate and careful "visualization of your cervix" may help reassure you that "nothing is wrong".
