With normal ER Heart studies the most likely origins appear to be chest wall or stomach related. The stomach entrance is just to the left of and behind the heart. Backwash of stomach acid can produce prolonged constant or intermittent pain. The "pop" in your sternum suggests an issue with the ribs that attach to it. I would contact your regular doctor to sort this out.

After life threatening conditions are ruled out follow up in the office, ideally with your primary care doc, is always needed in order to have further diagnostic studies done and have your condition treated properly. Your description strongly suggests a musculoskeletal problem, usually hard to diagnose and taking time to heal.
