It would be helpful to know what type of side effect you experienced with the Flovent inhaler. It is possible that other steroid inhalers would not cause the same effect. The most effective controller inhalers for asthma all have steroids. Alternative steroid-free options includes oral Montelukast which is used in those with allergic asthma. I would discuss more with the doc you see for asthma.

Often the technique in using the inhaler should be reviewed. There are several online videos on how to properly use the inhaler. The use of an inhaled steroid should be followed by rinsing the mouth to reduce side effects. Another option may be Montelukast a non steroidal anti inflammatory agent taken by mouth. It is important to distinguish between the symptoms of the illness and side effects.
