HPV is a family of viral strains, some of which are linked to cancer/most not. The timeframe for progression is years to decades if ever. Routine Pap smears are needed for surveillance as specified by the doc who knows your case.

HPV has many subtypes, some of which ( as type 16 and 18) can progress more often to actual carcinoma. It is unlikely that " after a year and a half" that this progression would have allowed a malignancy, but see your GYN physician for a repeat pap smear, with automatic testing for the HPV type, and further treatment if necessary.
