The spleen is a super sized lymph node and luckily we can loose it and still have a normal life. Having it for most of your growing years allowed you to benefit from much of its immune benefits before the loss & these should stay long term. You are more likely to limit your lifespan from alcohol intake ,smoking or erratic behavior. Try to live a well balanced life and don't worry about this issue.

I agree with Dr. F. After a splenectomy your resistance to certain antibiotics is weakened & it's recommended that you be vaccinated with pneumococcal, meningococcal & hemophilis influenzae vaccines.

Agree with Dr. Ferguson. Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. It will destroy your brain cells, damage testicular cells that make testosterone, facilitate development of cancer in many organs, cause hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level of alcohol intake. Quit while you are ahead.
