My grandmom is 80 years old & just recently just started to have a really hard time with grasping/opening things. she cant close her hands & her fingers are swollen & somewhat numb. her family has a history of arthritis. what would help??

Simple anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen may help, if not contra-indicated by any other med she is taking. I would be helpful to find some eating utensils and gripping assistive tools that are often available in specialty stores. This is a common issue in our older adults.

An occupational therapy evaluation along with a visit to her primary care doc or rheumatologist if having one would be best in trying to help her. Diclofenac gel topical may help in the interim if not allergic to it.
