Extremely high blood pressure can trigger temporary worsening of kidney function (acute kidney injury). But chronic persistent kidney damage requires years of insult from high blood pressure. How quickly this process happens is unique to each individual and depends on other factors (I.e. genetics, presence of diabetes, medication use, etc)
