Hello! i was recently put on lisinopril for hypertension. i know its great for lowering bp and being renal protective but ive heard it can cause an allergic reaction sometimes anaphylaxis. im nervous about taking it. how common are complications?

Lisinopril is probably the most commonly prescribed antihypertensive medicine in the world. The commonest side effects are a dry nagging cough but a true allergic reaction called angioedema occurs in less than 1% & anaphylaxis is very rare. If you're still concerned, speak to your MD about switching you to an angiotensin receptor blocker, somewhat similar to lisinopril but without the allergic rkn
