A member asked:

Negative hiv testing at 5 months after sex and also other std tests negative. can i believe the tests? or do i need more tests? ive read hiv can take years to show up on a test? is that true?

The best tests are the ones that draw blood because they are the most reliable if done one month after possible exposure. Other tests are not as reliable and can give false positives or negatives.

If you had a 4th gen combo test and it was negative at 5 months after exposure, you do not need to do more tests. Visit this site of info: HIV test window periods https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/hiv-testing/test-types.html

Yes believe the tests. You do not need any more tests. Please use caution when having sex with people who's health status you do not know.
