I read about clay colored stools. as clay comes in various colors, im wondering what is meant by this in the medical world? white, gray or tan? what exactly is meant by clay colored? thanks?

It means whitish gray. Brown, yellow, tan and similar tones all are due to bile, which enters the stool in the upper intestine during digestion. It's reduced bile output or blockage of bile ducts that causes gray/white ("clay colored") stools.
