Resection of dysplastic (atypical) moles is not absolutely indicated if the moles are checked regularly. If not, they should be removed because doctors believe that dysplastic nevi (moles) are more likely than ordinary moles to develop into a type of skin cancer called melanoma.

Biopsy of a mole is generally not a good idea. If the lesion is addressed, it should be remove completely. Go with your doctor's advice and have it removed completely. Wish you good health!
