Is a fasting blood sugar level 87 good? i read somewhere that's on the high end of normal and it indicates risk of diabetes?

Blood sugar of 87 is normal, but its value obtained depends on how soon after ingestion of carbohydrates occur. A better test is a "glucose tolerance test " administered after a calibrated dose of glucose over several hours post ingestion. See your physician for guidance.

A fasting plasma glucose of 87, done at an accredited laboratory, not a glucometer reading, is well in the normal range and not a cause for concern.
