Family Medicine 18 years experience
Diagnosis norm 6 yrs: By the time complications occur it normally has been 6.5 years that the patient has had symptoms or has been called "Pre-diabetic." Once symptoms occur it makes it more difficult to reverse. Anything above 129 on the glucometer is considered elevated 2 hours after eating. Please followup with your primary doctor if you have high blood sugars or are now having symptoms.
