Electrolyte abnormalities and presence of edema warrant an evaluation by a specialist in internal medicine to look for kidney,cardiac,liver causes. Thyroid function also would be checked. Referral to other specialists such as nephrologist or endocrinologist may be made depending upon the assessment by the internist.

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, abnormalities of electrolyte levels and edema warrant evaluation by an internist. Wish you good health!
