The earliest sign of Alport syndrome is microscopic hematuria (blood in the urine with microscopic exam) so urine should be checked in childhood. Impaired hearing and ocular abnormalities are the other common findings. We do not do routine genetic test in pregnancy, we only do if you have a family history. You can be a carrier if your immediate family member (parent/sibling) has this condition.
