I have costochondritis from years of working out. went a little too heavy last friday. having sternum pain hurts to the touch and in occasion hurts when i cough. even lying down makes it worse. ice or heat therapy for it?

Strenuous workouts with weights can result in separation of a rib from the sternal plate, causing the pain described. If the pain persists, see a physician for a chest x-ray to establish this cause. Best is to stop lifting which may allow the rib to reattach to the sternum.
