A member asked:

Do your parents stay in the room with you during a physical exam? if they leave, what does the doctor tell them when they come back in? and if you refuse parts of the exam (like a genital exam) will they tell your parents that too?

It varies with the doc. I chose to have a parent stay or if the teen came alone, had a nurse stand by. I also let the teen know we could have conversations separate from the parents if their parent consented. In my state parents have full access to your written record. Some conversations I had were kept confidential and not written down.
