A member asked:

I'm getting smaller but my weight on the scale is increasing after lifting small weights (10 lb -20 lb) and doing light cardio. could this be because i am building lean muscle??

Muscle is denser than adipose tissue, and a gain in muscle mass would result in a minor weight gain, assuming that dietary intake remained the same.

Yes, muscle weighs more than adipose ( fatty) tissue., so this is a possible explanation for your result.

A pound of fat& a pound of muscle both weigh a pound. Muscle is denser & takes up less space though & tones the body. However If you're gaining weight you're taking in more calories than you expend. Exercise alone doesn't guarantee weight loss. Calories count!
