My ophthalmologist said my right eye is protruding 1mm. is a lot or a small amount to be protruding? we are looking into why but im curious how much 1mm matters. thank you?

Indeed, it is mild, but should be followed. If becomes more prominent, may need imaging to rule out retro-orbital mass or inflammation. Might check thyroid function studies if additional symptoms.
