Lymph glands are normal structures scattered throughout the body including in near the parotid gland. They sift through body serum and remove debris or infectious particles. They enlarge when their work needs increase and shrink down as it subsides. If it is a lymph node it remains there forever. The gland occasionally can swell when it has a clog in one of its ducts.
