A Holter monitor may record the presence of a cardiac arrhythmia which occurs intermittently, and would be missed during a brief EKG.

if you are having a cardiac arrhythmia it may be occurring occasionally and a standard EKG last 30-60 seconds, therefore it is possible to miss an arrhythmia if it’s only happening 2-3 times in a minute. When a 24 hr EKG or Halter monitor is done you have a greater chance of see the arrhythmia.
