A member asked:

Is constipation (lasting close to around 1.5 years) a reason to get an ileostomy? im able to go poop but for around 1.5 years ive felt like theres more poop in me that im not getting out. is an ileostomy a way to solve this?

I would NEVER consider this a reasonable option. You need to get with a GI doc who can help you rehabilitate your system and develop a soft acceptable stooling pattern. If you like the idea of wearing a poop bag on your side filled with watery poop forever you need therapy.

Not at all. You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods. http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/high-fiber-foods/art-20050948 Wish you good health!
