For the common kidney stones, there is slightly high risk for the immediate family member but the link is not that strong so you should not worry at all. I wonder if your husband knows what kind of stone he got. For lowering the risk of kidney stone, one should drink fluid adequately, 1.5-2 liters/day, eating less salt and less animal protein products.

You son can take preventive measure by drinking enough water daily so that his urine is mostly colorless. That would prevent stone formation.
