Pretty normal: Difficulty procedure and leaves a lot of inflammation - plus stone must have been large to need to get it rather than pass it.

Need Pain Meds: It is not unusual to have some pain after kidney stone surgery, but pain is not as bad as you get with the stone most urologist will prescribe some pain pills after the procedure. If you do not have or not prescribed call your urologist and get pain meds.

Call the urologist: Some pain is common with a stint in and from the surgery. But call the doctor to see if this pain is normal or abnormal.

Here are some ...: I assumed your husband's stone removal was through small opening(s) at the back. Generally speaking, surgically-related pain will gradually subsided and faded, but with a widely variable pace. If pain still persists even after 2-3 weeks with no sign of getting better but hitting hard with pain at moving certain direction, one has to worry about possible rare unavoidable injury to spinal nerve.
