Reinke's edema is not a precancerous condition although it is almost always seen in smoker. However, literature suggests it may occur secondary to voice overuse, thyroid disease, hormonal change, and stomach acid reflux. Treating Reinke's edema may involve voice therapy or surgery besides treating the identified cause.
