Nerve block?: Did you have a nerve block or did they intubate you. You should not be hoarse this far out from surgery and this needs to be investigated. Call the anesthesiologist immediately. You may need to see an ENT to do a quick video larygnoscopy to observe the vocal cords movement.

Soon: You had surgery with general anesthesia. Your voice is hoarse because of endotracheal intubation. It can take 3-4 weeks to return to normal but could be longer if you smoke or don't rest it enough. Remember the tube sat on your vocal cords during the entire surgery. If you are still bringing up mucus, have fevers, or notice wheezing call your regular doctors office. Be well.
