Laminectomy or laminotomy or foraminotomy or facetectomy or a combination of these is the procedure for treating lumbosacral stenosis as a way to decompress the neural structures and provide more room for the spinal cord and/or nerve roots. Those procedures are different from spine fusion surgery which involves techniques designed to mimic the normal healing process of broken bones.

Lumbosacral stenosis represents narrowing of the lumbosacral cistern, and can cause leg symptoms called neurogenic claudication. Surgery is often challenging as this involves far different techniques than dealing with a ruptured disc. The goal is to decompress and enlarge the area of concern. Would recommend 2-3 opinions if surgery has been advised.
