They will only need to get your L2 area in the MRI. Some machines require all of you in them but many do not. Discuss with the MRIer. And ask to see it or pictures.

Yes, your whole body has to be inside. If you have severe claustrophobia you can ask your doctor a medication for anxiety to take before the test or request an open MRI if available.
