Depends on the MRI.: Small MRI machines called "extremity magnets" only take the body part inside the coil. The images from these smaller machines doesn't have the high resolution available on the larger magnets, however. For a conventional "large bore" MRI, they do put your whole body inside, but since it's just your finger, they may be able to keep your head outside of the magnet. Ask them :)
