It has been FDA approved to treat only one condition: interstitial cystitis. Kidney damage is not listed as one of its side effects but Web MD advises to consult your doctor about its use as a supplement if you have liver or kidney problem. As a kidney specialist I have never encountered any case of DMSO related kidney injury but I am not advocating its use unless there are clearly benefits.

DMSO comes in many strengths. In proper usage it is not harmful to the kidneys. Do not ingest it
