Sperm are created with a limited amount of stored energy reserves. They will become ineffective & die within 4-5 days after release under the best possible environmental conditions. (Inside the female genital tract) They die within minutes outside of favorable environmental conditions. Whether or not this is also the fertile window is not relevant to their length of survival.

Agree with Dr. Ferguson. If you are trying to get pregnant, it is better to have sex before ovulation as the sperm in the female reproductive tract are viable for up to 5 days. A newly released egg is only useful for a day or so, if that long.
