A member asked:

35 y/o female. recently did labs to confirm a uti, the uti was confirmed, and all other lab results were normal other than an elevated bilirubin of 1.7 mg. should i be concerned? was told by my doctor labs are fine. im still concerned about bili?

Why would a comprehensive blood test including bilirubin be ordered for a simple UTI in a young person? In my opinion it is overkill. If you are worried have the bilirubin repeated. I think you will be fine

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, bilirubin if 1.7 is not too high and could be normal in a person with Gilbert's. You may wish to repeat the test in 3-6 months. Wish you good health!
