While this isolated episode is not going to pose significant health issues, specifically if food properly cooked the risk of contamination remains high if such circumstances recur and disposing properly of used sponges will be critical.

Agree with Dr. P. If the food was heated to about 200 degree, there is not risk of any infection or any other risk.
