It is most likely a pulled or bruised muscle in your chest wall from all the coughing. It could even be a small rib fracture. Assuming the coughing has stopped, the area will heal-a rib fracture can take 6 weeks or longer to fully heal since it is moving with every breath you take. If you are still coughing, call your doctor for treatment since continued coughing will delay healing! Good luck!

Discuss the use of local heat y ibuprofen with your physician. Coughing may result in musculoskeletal pain. Other causes though include pneumonia, rib fracture. Watch for a signs of shortness of breath. Please follow up with your physician if the cough lasts more than 3 week's, is associated with fever or sputum production.
