We treat oral or genital herpes simplex 1 the same with acyclovir or famciclovir or valacyclovir for 7-10 days. Treatment within the first 3 days of onset is more helpful in shortening the clinical course. All medications have the same efficacy but valacyclovir is easier to adhere with twice a day regimen.
