My son had the worst variant of covid-19. after 11 days in hospital, we thank god he is alive. his oxygen level was 80. he had covid pneumonia. he's home with oxygen. how long is his recovery? will he ever get off of oxygen? will his lungs heal? tx?

Am sorry to hear of your son's terrible experience. Unfortunately, it may take months for maximal healing, and likely that exertion activities will be extremely difficult at this point. There will be healing but not feasible to predict extent based upon your post. Recommend a visit to a respiratory specialist.

The course may be prolonged, and follow up care includes avoiding smoke, allergens,fungus and mold exposure.
