Viral hepatitis occurs rarely if ever from sharing cigarettes, drinking glasses, or other utensil; and rarely from being served food by an infected person. Hepatitis A is an exception, but the hepatitis A virus is not carried long term, so it is unlikely this the type of hepatitis this person has. Whether or not someone has HIV makes no difference in the chance of hepatitis virus transmission.
