A member asked:

Last pap smear 6 months ago was all fine but hpv (58). i have it probably for years. if i continue doing pap smears every 6 months for the rest of my life and treat any changes that may occur, are my chances of developing cancer (almost) zero?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes. If your PAP smear result are normal, doing it every 6 months would be overkill. Yearly ones would be more than adequate. Once you have three consecutive normal PAPs, your doctor may reduce the frequency of testing to every three years. Wish you good health!
