Stress triggers a natural output of stress hormones in the blood.These can double the white blood count during the period the stress is ongoing by mobilizing cells that are usually out of sight. When the number increases but the percentage of mature cells remain normal, we accept it as a simple stress response.If the increase includes many immature/juvenile cells we would not consider it normal.
